Starting Point Launches A Capital Campaign

Several years ago, the board of directors, the staff, volunteers and past clients endeavored to find a facility that would allow the agency to better serve the ever growing needs of victims. We created a wish list of wants and needs for our future facility...a safe place in a family oriented neighborhood, bright and cheerful accommodations, a kitchen where more than one family could prepare meals at the same time, a private area for teens, a fenced in play area for the little ones, an adult only space for support groups and all of it handicap accessible. We wished for ... a shelter location within walking distance to schools, health care, groceries, post offices, indoor and outdoor recreation, and employment opportunities. We dreamed of a shelter with room to grow and a place to house our main offices.

That nearly perfect facility has been found.

SHELTER......

Temporary refuge safe from injury or attack....
A retreat where one retires for peace or privacy....
Escape from pursuit or difficulties.....

For most of us the word shelter means the safety and comfort of our home. For the clients of Starting Point, the shelter is a temporary refuge safe from injury or attack. Shelter is not their home, but it is a sanctuary where the guests can relax, regain a sense of control in their lives and begin the long process of healing. Starting Point has been blessed to have a shelter facility for many years. Over 700 women and children have been given refuge under its roof. While not perfect, it provided the basics needed to help give our guests a safe space to start anew.
