Starting Point offers Healing Arts Program for Victims

Beginning Aug. 19 from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Starting Point will be offering biweekly art workshops to those who have experienced domestic or sexual violence looking for creative outlets for internal expression.

The instructor, an art major educator, will be supporting survivors in developing artistic techniques for expression of emotion that may be otherwise difficult to convey verbally. Classes are open to survivors only. Starting Point advocates will co-facilitate the program.

Allowing a safe space for people to explore the tools and means for conveying artistic expression without feeling intimidated by the process will be the goal for the classes. There will be no discrimination, nor expectations so that the act of creating will serve as a means of physical, psychological and spiritual well-being.

The classes will consist of mixed media and although the instructor will provide direction in technique and use of different tools, emphasis will be placed on individual interests and a communally led direction for future exploration of forms.

This program, like all Starting Point programs, is free. Tools and supplies will be provided. Participants can attend all classes or may drop in. The class size will be capped at 10, so registration is required.

To reserve a spot, call (603) 447-2494 or email community@startingpointnh.org.

Future classes will be held on Sept. 16 and 23.

Starting Point provides free and conditional services to victims of domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking. If you or someone you know is experiencing victimization, call (800) 336-3795 to speak with an advocate, 24/7/365.
