Your Rights

At Starting Point, we believe in the dignity and rights of every individual. We are committed to providing free and confidential services to victims of domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking. This page is designed to inform you of your rights as a client and guide you through our grievance procedure.

Client Rights

As a client utilizing Starting Point’s services, you are entitled to the following:

  • Respectful treatment: You have the right to be treated respectfully by our staff, volunteers, and other agents.
  • Confidentiality: Your personal information and records are kept confidential as required by New Hampshire law RSA 173-C.
  • Access to your records: You can access your personal/individual records, which will only be released upon your written request.
  • Understanding of rules: You have the right to know and understand all the rules and expectations you are expected to follow while working with Starting Point.
  • Decision-making: You have the right to make your own decisions, within Starting Point’s rules and policies.
  • Input: You are encouraged to give suggestions and input regarding our programming.
  • Complaints: You have the right to make a complaint about the services you received from Starting Point.

Grievance Procedure

If you have a complaint or grievance, please follow these steps:

  1. Speak or meet with a Starting Point staff member about your complaint and work towards a resolution.
  2. If no resolution is reached, you may submit your complaint in writing or in-person to Deb Weinstein, Executive Director at Starting Point, PO Box 1972, Conway, NH 03818.
  3. The Executive Director, or their designee, will investigate your complaint and provide a written response within five working days of receiving the complaint.
  4. If you do not agree with the Executive Director’s resolution, you may appeal it in writing or in-person to Starting Point’s Board of Directors at Starting Point, Attention: Board of Directors, PO Box 1972, Conway, NH 03818.
  5. The Board of Directors will provide a written response within 30 days of receiving your complaint.
